How this checker decides

It keeps at least 12 inches of bare floor between the rug and each wall, or 8 inches in a room under 10 feet wide. Then it picks the largest standard size that still fits, because a rug that is too small makes a small room look smaller. Last, it checks the rug against your sofa: the rug should run at least 6 inches past each arm.
